Sports - Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026

The 2026 Commonwealth Games were held in Glasgow, Scotland from 23 July to 2 August 2026, featuring around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations competing across a streamlined 10‑sport program. Participation in the Games is limited to member states of the Commonwealth of Nations and their territories. Although there are 56 members of the Commonwealth of Nations, 74 teams currently participated in the Commonwealth Games as a number of dependent territories compete under their own flags.

India wrapped up its Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign with a total of 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze, to finish fourth in the overall medal standings.

Competing in the women's 48kg category, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu lifted a combined 190kg, setting a new Commonwealth Games record of 85kg in the snatch before sealing the title with a 105kg clean and jerk. Her latest triumph added to the gold medals she won in 2018 and 2022.

In women's 69kg weightlifting category, Harjinder Kaur registered a combined total lift of 227kg to secure her silver medal.

Weightlifter Valluri Ajaya Babu won the silver medal in the men's 79kg category. He finished just one kilogram behind Malaysia's Erry Hidayat Muhammad, who won the gold.

Weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav won silver in the women's 53kg category. She is now the fourth Indian weightlifter after Rishikanta Singh (silver), Mirabai Chanu (gold) and Raja Muthupandi (silver) to walk away on the podium in the 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games.

Weightlifter Rishikanta Singh claimed silver in the men's 60kg event with a total lift of 264kg after equalling the Games record in the snatch.

Weightlifter Muthupandi Raja won silver in the men's 65kg category with a combined lift of 286kg.

Weightlifter Bindyarani Devi won the bronze medal in women's 58kg category competition at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on 27 July 2026.

Sharmila Dhankar won gold in Para-athletics - Women's shot put F57

Bronze medal was won by para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar.

Gulveer Singh, first Indian man to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the 10,000m event. He crossed the finish line in 27:49.78 with a blistering final-lap sprint to claim the silver.
